Come along to hear from Jamie Boast, Jackson Civil Engineering.
The problem facing Connect Plus was how to replace concrete bays on the M25 without significant disruption to traffic flow. Impossible one might think, but by working in close collaboration with their supply chain a solution was found.
Built in the 1980’s, with an asymmetrical widened section added in 1996, the concrete pavement sections of the M25 between Junctions 8-10 require a strategy to maximise their serviceability and maintain usability on a section of road that is travelled by 142,000 vehicles per day. The client Connect Plus has a programme of works to deal with two problems - failure of the original unreinforced concrete bays due to rocking and cracking, and failure of the widened continuously reinforced concrete sections. The works were also to be tied in with ongoing SCRIM surveys to retexture the worn surface using mechanical fine milling to provide compliant wet road skid resistance.
This talk deals with the contractor’s approach to the scheme and highlights industry best practice collaborative working between the client, supply chain partners and other stakeholders to deliver an effective solution and maintain a programme of innovation throughout the whole strategy.
Jamie Boast was Jackson Civil Engineering’s Project Manager on the scheme and he also had a part time secondment to Connect Plus Services.
