Transport Scotland is fully aligned with Scottish Government commitments on carbon reduction. Responsible for transport services, infrastructure maintenance and project delivery, Transport Scotland aims to lead and work with the construction and transport management industries to stimulate innovation in carbon reduction.
Recent work has focused on means of measuring and analysing the carbon impacts of Transport Scotland’s activities. This has led to the development of a Carbon Management System (CMS), providing the basis for consistent, objective emissions appraisal across different projects, maintenance schemes and the supply chain.
CMS tools are intended support design and construction optioneering and, following a period of deployment on live projects, CMS will yield information on the relative proportions of carbon and on the materials and processes where carbon reduction effort should be targeted.
This presentation will provide an overview of the technical approach taken to develop the CMS, the practical evidence obtained via a 6 month pilot exercise, the potential applications and future deployment across the Transport Scotland supply chain.
Those attending may claim CPD – a certificate will be issued following the event
