Pedestrian and cycle conflicts - new evidence, fresh research
Pedestrian and cycle conflict is raised constantly in public discussions and in the media. But just how prevalent is it?

New evidence and fresh research into the extent and nature of pedestrian and cycle conflicts in central London will be presented, including video footage. This was recorded at sites with a history of complaints from pedestrians or cyclists, aiming to understand the nature of the interactions and the elements of design and user behaviour that combine to create conflict.

A literature review revealed that most previous studies had considered conflict in the context of linear multi-user trails or pedestrianized areas rather than within streets and junctions.
The session will be led by Adrian Lord and Simon Hollowood of consultants Steer Davies Gleave. The video footage from three sites will be reviewed and then there will a structured discussion about what could be improved to reduce the level of conflict in each case.
