Cycling towns and their successes to date

6pm for 6.30pm
County Hall, Lewes

Speaker: Abby Hone, Brighton & Hove City Council

At County Hall, Lewes, on 16 September, Brighton & Hove City Council’s principal transport planner Abby Hone will reveal what has been done in Brighton & Hove to achieve remarkable growth in cycling in the city. She will also offer a glimpse of what could come next as Brighton & Hove looks to sustain this success.

Abby joined Brighton & Hove as walking and cycling officer in early 2006 when Brighton & Hove achieved cycling demonstration town status. Abby has managed the city’s cycling town project since 2008, during which time cycling in the city has increased by 27%.

Abby was also actively involved in cycling related elements of the multi award winning New Road urban redesign project and Brighton & Hove’s Street Design Guidance cited by Living Streets as a best practice example. She continues to oversee the trial of new cycle priority measures in Brighton & Hove, including interactive cycle counters, theft reduction techniques and new social marketing approaches to promote active travel.
