SpeakersTom Bogdanowicz & Koy Thompson of the London Cycling Campaign
Cycling's renaissance in London is continuing as more pioneering projects like Cycle Hire, Cycle Superhighways and Biking Boroughs come on stream. The London Cycling Campaign has played a key advisory and lobbying role throughout the cycling boom. In this presentation you will hear about the user's perspective on what works in cycling provision and how to best benefit from stakeholder input.
The talk will look at how the Mayor's new flagship programmes are fitting in with previous and ongoing cycling initiatives across London. Cycling growth in the capital is attributed to a package of measures which include traffic control measures (such as road pricing), innovative infrastructure projects and also a range of so-called 'soft measures' like cycle training, cycling events and community projects. LCC's local groups have been instrumental in working with engineers to improve designs, and also working with the public to enable them to benefit from better provision.
TfL and local authority engagement with stakeholders has been at the core of London's most successful cycling projects including the London Skyride, the London cycling maps (Local Cycling Guides)and progressive new infrastructure work like the Agar Road-Camley Street link and De Beauvior traffic management scheme. The presentation will examine what's behind successful communication and implementation.
