Bridgewater Hall, Manchester - 23rd September 2009
In May 2009 a new transport package for Greater Manchester was announced with a significant £1.4 billion investment. The series of projects aim to deliver an accessible and integrated transport network that leaves a legacy not just for Manchester but the North West region.
The vote against peak-time road congestion charge resulted in a funding deficit for planned projects and the task now is how to deliver high quality schemes at a reduced cost. What lessons can be learned from other regions given Manchester’s revised plans for funding and the transport network?
Topics to be discussed:
- A detailed analysis of Greater Manchester's recently announced transport projects, including the Metrolink expansion.
- Focusing on the economic impact of forthcoming transport schemes. How will construction, development and planned initiatives affect local business and trade?
- Tackling issues with road congestion, traffic flow and public transport across the region.
- How to deliver a succesful integrated transport network given constraints on budget and expenditure.
- Promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly transport legacy.
