Transport Planners and Engineers in the South West
As planners and engineers, we contribute to an industry that has a vital role to play in responding to the recently declared climate emergency. Join us, as Dr Steve Melia explains why he joined Extinction Rebellion and broke the law, helping us to consider climate change, transport and our role in shaping the future.
Dr Steve Melia lectures in transport and planning at the University of the West of England. In April 2019, he joined Extinction Rebellion protesters in London. He has been a parliamentary candidate, environmental campaigner and freelance journalist, writing and speaking on transport in cities. His research has mainly focussed on how to make transport in urban areas more sustainable. He has advised government departments, local authorities and political parties on this. He is currently writing a book on transport, protest and politics over the past 30 years.
