The National Traffic Information Service (NTIS) is operated on behalf of Highways England –the Highways Authority for the English strategic road network. NTIS provides information and data including raw and processed traffic data, messages relating to incidents and events, and variable message settings.
Information is provided across multiple dissemination channels, and is used for journey planning and informing journeys in progress. Information is provided to subscribers and partners continuously, and is also provided in a tailored form as strategic responses to events on the network. These responses have a measurable benefit to road users, mitigating the impact of events and improving journey time reliability.
This presentation will provide an overview of the NTIS service, highlight some of the operational challenges faced, and provide a summary of the benefits provided from its operation.
