The UK Roads Liaison Group has developed a new Code of Practice entitled ‘Management of Electronic Traffic Equipment’.  This will become the fourth Code within the current suite of Codes, and will sit alongside Well-lit Highways, Well-maintained Highways and the Management of Highway Structures.

The Code provides guidance on the planning and management of the maintenance of electronic traffic equipment within the context of good practice and performance improvement.  The Code covers infrastructure outside of the motorway and trunk road network including the following technologies:

•    Traffic signals
•    Crossing signals
•    Interactive Signs
•    Variable Message Signs
•    Road Safety Cameras
•    Real Time Passenger Information Systems
•    Traffic Monitoring Equipment
•    Rising Bollards
•    CCTV Cameras
•    Over-height vehicle detection systems

The lecture:

•    Explained the role of the UKRLG in developing and maintaining national guidance on managing transport infrastructure
•    Provided information on the latest updates to the national guidance
•    Provided an overview of the new Code of Practice
•    Provided information on the 19 recommendations contained in the Code and its implementation.
