Most organisations now have access to environmental data, but data alone rarely changes anything. This session focuses on the distinction between monitoring pollution and managing it: using continuous, source-attributed air-quality monitoring to identify where and why pollution is occurring, target practical interventions, and then measure whether those interventions have actually delivered an improvement.
Drawing on real deployments across healthcare, logistics and public venues, the session will show how evidence-focused data enables fleet, delivery and supplier decisions to cut emissions at the source and support Scope 3 and clean-air goals. For CIHT and CILT members, the focus is firmly on the transport and logistics angle: moving from having environmental data to using and communicating it to make better operational and policy decisions.
We will be joined by Kirsten Zoe-Smith of Recorra, the waste and recycling company, who will share how they used EMSOL's data to drive their own operational changes and emissions reductions — a practical, supply-chain-led example of evidence turning into action.

James Coates, Account Executive, EMSOL - Environmental & Sustainability Product James is an Account Executive at EMSOL, an innovative air quality and environmental monitoring and management company. He leads projects across NHS Trusts, Local Authorities and Enterprise, helping organisations better understand their air quality data and translate it into effective mitigations and meaningful change. Working closely with sustainability, estates and operational teams, he supports clients in identifying practical opportunities to reduce pollution via engagement, behavioural change and awareness. His focus is making complex environmental data accessible so organisations can move from monitoring to measurable improvement. He holds a first-class Master's degree in Biology from Newcastle University. |

Kirsten Zoe-Smith, Net Zero Strategist, Recorra Kirsten is Recorra’s Net Zero Strategist. She is responsible for the company’s carbon footprint and co-runs Recorra’s Impact Consultancy, where she is a specialist in air quality and emissions. While primarily supporting clients with emissions reporting, reduction and compliance, she also manages projects that reduce their waste volumes, improve the sustainability of their procurement, and increase their social impact. She was a founding co-chair of the Sustainable Urban Freight Association, and author of the upcoming Voices of the Industry paper on barriers to electrification. She holds a first-class degree in History from the University of Oxford |
