Overview

This session looks at transport not as an end in itself, but as something that enables wider outcomes for people and places. Taking Nottingham as a shared reference point, participants will work in small groups to trace how transport connects to five conference subthemes. Surfacing the local challenges the area faces, and shaping regional solutions that could unlock each theme.

Teams will analyse real-world challenges, generate strategic solutions, and prepare a short presentation outlining their proposals. Each group will have the opportunity to present their ideas to fellow participants and a judging panel, showcasing their approach to addressing transport needs within the region.

Through collaboration and problem-solving, attendees will gain insight into different perspectives whilst enhancing their teamwork, communication, and engineering skills. The outcomes will be presented at the national CIHT Emerging Professional Conference, held on 8 September.

This event offers an excellent platform to network with peers, learn from professionals across the industry, and contribute to discussions around the future of transport in the East Midlands. To add a competitive element, a prize will be awarded to the team whose solution demonstrates the greatest innovation, impact, and feasibility. 

Who is this event for?

This event is open to emerging professionals, graduates, apprentices, students and early-career practitioners with an interest in highways, transportation and infrastructure. Whether you work in consultancy, local government, contracting, academia or are just beginning your career, this is an opportunity to collaborate with peers, share ideas and contribute to discussions on the future of transport.
