By kind permission of Contractor, Carillion, and Client, Cornwall Council, a visit to this regeneration project in Hayle in Cornwall has been arranged for the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation.
The visit will take place on Thursday 20 September between 4pm and 6.30 pm, starting with a short presentation on the project, followed by a walking tour of the site before concluding with tea/coffee and a complimentary world class Philps pasty.
The multi-million pound works include 950m of new or upgraded carriageway with a new junction with the B3301 crossing the Copperhouse pool on a 53m 3-span reinforced concrete bridge. There are also 400m of new flood alleviation works and some 850m of existing masonry wall which require repair or re-pointing. The road opens up the area of North Quay for business development opportunities and provides the link to the wave hub control building and proposed Marine Renewables Business Park. The site is classified as brown field and is subject to a range of historical, environmental and planning constraints. Work started in January 2011 and is scheduled for completion in November this year.
Numbers (and pasties) will be limited and allocated on a first come – first served basis. Whilst priority will be given to CIHT members, non-members will be welcome to attend.
