How Transport & Infrastructure Projects Can Ensure a Net Biodiversity Gain

The Government’s commitment to leaving nature in a better state than this generation found it has driven the strategies outlined in the recent 25 Year Environment Plan and revised requirements in the updated National Planning Policy Framework. Both these policies identify transport and infrastructure as a key sector to deliver more for the environment. One way to do this is through Biodiversity Net Gain or Environmental Net Gain. We will provide background on these concepts, provide an overview of new and emerging policies on net gain and demonstrate how net gain can be embedded in transport development projects using examples from WSP’s work.
