London Buses has now fully rolled out its iBus project - a state-of-the-art Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), radio and an on-bus passenger information display and announcement system - to every bus and garage across London, that's over 8000 buses and 90 garages. It is also one of the world's largest integrated Automatic Vehicle Location projects. The Intelligent Transport Society (ITS) for the UK has presented London Buses with the 2007/08 Annual Award for Excellence for its iBus system. This joint presentation will consist of Martin Davey providing an overview of the development of the iBus system, and outlining the benefits to passengers, operators and drivers. Steve Palmer will then focus on how the iBus platform has been used to implement an upgrade to the Selective Vehicle Detection (SVD) at traffic signal systems across London and the added opportunities the new system presents for intelligent bus priority.
