Steve Maslin - Associate, Technical Authority for Inclusive Design, AtkinsRealis
Having personal experience of dyslexia, direct experience of family needs and worked with many people in an enabling capacity via Social Services and directly, Steve has gained significant experience of the issues people can experience.
He is AtkinsRéalis’s Technical Authority for Inclusive Design, leading the discipline from within its Transportation division. As an RIBA Chartered Architect since 1992, a Consultant Member of the UK’s National Register of Access Consultants since 2003, a British Standards Institute committee member since 2008 and a Fellow of the Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems since 2012, Steve is also a public speaker and published author on the subject of designing mind-friendly environments and has worked as a visiting lecturer at several UK universities.
Steve’s entire professional experience also ranges through from design, technical delivery, onsite, advisory, engagement, to research work. He advises on a wide range of transportation, urban realm, workplace, and adult and child social care projects. He also has significant prior experience of primary through to tertiary education premises. He is the Subject Matter Expert for research and thought leadership activities undertaken for the UK’s Department for Transport, National Highways, and Network Rail, including the accessibility assessment of Great Britain’s 2575 rail stations.
