Inspection and Repair of Concrete Bridges and Structures

The presentation will cover the latest British Standard - BS EN 1504 - Products and Systems for the Protection and Repair of Concrete Structures (which it is now mandatory to use on all contracts where public money is being spent), detail what an investigation and condition survey should consist of and what the advantages are of carrying one out prior to deciding on the repair methodology. furthermore, it will touch on the pro's and con's of various methods of concrete repairs,  give an overview of structural strengthening using carbon fibre and explain what corrosion prevention is and where it can be used.

The Speaker, Michael Balletta, works for Concrete Repairs Limited as an Infrastructure Manager. Michael qualified as a Civil Engineer in 1982 and after working on large civil projects for 3 years was offered the opportunity to specialise in the fields of Concrete Technology & Structural Rehabilitation. He has worked in this field for the last 35 years at various levels from Junior Site Engineer, to Managing Director of his own company. Michael has worked on a variety of structures in various countries around the world in a range of sectors such as highway, marine, water and heritage. Mike is an active member of the Concrete Repair Association, the Corrosion Prevention Association and the Institute of Corrosion.
