Lower Temperature and Carbon Savings Asphalts 21 October 2010

Synopsis

Although not extensively used in the UK, the benefits of using cold bitumen bound materials for road pavement construction are apparent for health, safety and the environment.
Hot-mix asphalt manufacturing facilities are not ideally suited for producing cold-mix and new techniques have been developed to facilitate a reduction in the temperature of the materials that they produce. A range of products are now available that have the advantages of lower energy consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emission, less fume at the jobsite, reduced binder ageing, and less disruption to road traffic.

This meeting will examine the different techniques that are used to produce lower temperature asphalt, including some novel binder systems. A comparison will be made with both cold and hot mix materials.

Who should attend?

This event will be of interest to engineers, students, researchers, specifying authorities and practitioners who wish to know how new and not-so-new methods of asphalt production may contribute to more sustainable construction and maintenance of roads, airfields and other paved areas.
