Our speaker, Calvin Blacker , Engineering Manager for the Skanska Balfour Beatty Joint Venture for the M25 DBFO, will talk about design innovations for the Widenings (Pre Olympics) and the Smart
Motorways All Lane Running (Post Olympics).He will focus on the experiences and achievements of the first all lane running scheme currently under construction on the M25, from Junctions 5 to 7. Calvin’s presentation will also cover the delivery challenges of the scheme including keeping the traffic flowing through construction, environmental mitigation, community and stakeholder engagement.
This will include design innovations such as:
co-location of gantries, concrete emergency refuge areas,
visual screen bunds - GPDO, the design strategy for technology, power supplies, wavetronix
TTM signs (secret signs) i.e. LED verge signs and Central Reserve Blind Signs for traffic management,
fixed traffic management taper positions,
Varioguard taper, infra red illumination and 200% CCTV coverage,
BIM point cloud data utilisation above ground, and future developments.
During the M25 Widenings - skewing of Railway Bridge alignment to avoid need to replace bridge beams, Smooth Faced Retaining Wall, King Sheet Pile wall system.
