The event is open to both CIHT members and non-members and is aimed at students, apprentices, recent graduates and transportation professionals, as well as anyone interested in joining CIHT and the transportation industry.

Martin Tugwell, Programme Director at England’s Economic Heartland and current CIHT President
Martin Tugwell is the Programme Director at England’s Economic Heartland (EEH), one of 7 Sub-national Transport Bodies in England, which brings political and business leaders together in a strategic collaborative partnership committed to realising the economic potential of the Heartland, including the Oxford – Milton Keynes – Cambridge Arc.
Stretching from Swindon to Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire to Hertfordshire, EEH provides leadership on strategic infrastructure issues, in particular those relating to transport, digital connectivity and utilities. As the region’s Sub-national Transport Body, EEH is producing an over-arching Transport Strategy - a 30 year strategic vision for the transport system that puts the needs of businesses and individuals at the forefront of investment decisions.
Martin is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transport (CIHT) and a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is President of the CIHT for 2019/21, having previously chaired the Institution’s Learned Society and Technical Board and Chair of the Board of Trustees. He is a past Chairman of the Transport Planning Society and a Council member for the National Infrastructure Planning Association. A naturally inquisitive nature has meant that Martin has always been open to challenging received wisdom and to learn from others about how together they can make a difference. He passionately believes in the key role that professionals have to play in making a difference.
Stephen Morgan, CIHT West Midlands Young Professionals Chair
Stephen works as a consultant for Yotta providing industry-leading infrastructure asset management consultancy services to private and public sectors. He has worked within the transportation sector since graduating from Bournemouth University and is actively engaged with the CIHT Young Professional Committee for the West Midlands.
Stephen has a desire to encourage and support all young professionals within the industry and actively promotes engagement to support platforms for young professionals.
Zoe Smith, CIHT West Midlands, Young Professionals Vice-Chair
Zoe is the Network Resilience Data Manager at Transport for West Midlands, the transport face of the West Midlands Combined Authority responsible for delivering improved transport across the region.
Zoe has 10 years experience in both private and public sectors in the UK and Middle East covering asset management, GIS and highway network resilience.
She is also a registered Engineering Technician and STEM Ambassador.
