GoToWebinar: This webinar, organised by CIHT East Midlands, will look at a successful trial of enhancements to England’s ramp metering system, bringing adaptive self-tuning algorithms into operation.
In this webinar, we will hear from Dr. Jill Hayden at Atkins, where a paper was written about a successful trial of enhancements to England’s ramp metering system, bringing adaptive self-tuning algorithms into operation.
The paper won best technical paper at the ITS World Congress 2021, out of hundreds submitted!
Ramp metering uses traffic lights on motorway slip roads to manage the vehicles entering the motorway, with the aim of improving traffic conditions, reducing congestion and increasing safety. There have been up to 100 sites in England.
Jill will present an introduction about ramp metering and how it works, what the benefits are, and what the improvements were. There will be a Q&A opportunity following the presentation.
This webinar is open to all professionals within transport and related disciplines and should be of particular interest and relevance to traffic and ITS engineers.
