NEW BUS FOR LONDON

The mock up of the "New Bus for London" is expected to be launched to the media in October and the real buses are due to arrive in 2012. Although taking some cues from the original Routemaster design and retaining the open rear platform this bus is a completely new vehicle with a number of innovative features. Three doors and two staircases enable quicker access on and off the bus and the use of lightweight composites and a new generation of diesel-electric hybrid drive systems give the bus 21st credentials. This presentation will highlight the thought process behind the design and describe the new features that will soon be seen on London’s roads.
