Join us for an evening seminar at Teeside University (Stephenson Lecture Theatre) regarding the Queensferry Crossing by its Project Manager Lawrence Shackman for Transport for Scotland.

 

In 2015 Lawrence presented a paper on the early works in Newcastle. Since then there have been major works and advances in construction. The talk will give details of construction of the 2.7km structure, which has the longest 3-tower cable-stay spans. Items likely to be covered include:

1. Corrosion of Forth Rd Br cables leading to the need for the new bridge.

2. Caisson design and construction.

3. Piers

4. Cable spinning

5. Precasting of decks

6. Lifting of deck segments into position

All engineers and students will find great interest in one of the major structures of our time.
