This year's lecture will cover the role of transport investment in supporting the growth of the Northern economy. Transport for the North is finalising its first Strategic Transport Plan and will become the first statutory Sub-National Transport Body later this year – its role will include co-ordinating significant investment with the Department for Transport, Network Rail, Highways England, local transport authorities and private sector partners across the North.
Our high-profile speakers will outline the context and challenges associated with delivering growth from new transport investment, and assess its contribution to rebalancing the UK economy towards the North.
The 2018 lecture is organised by the Transport Planning Society (TPS), on behalf of all the region's transport professional institutions. The event will once more celebrate the life and career of Alan Stilwell FICE, MCIHT who passed away in 2015 after a distinguished career serving Cheshire County Council, Merseytravel and others.
Following introductory presentations by our speakers, there will be a Q&A discussion to allow questions and in-depth debate on the issues raised. Light refreshments will be provided.
Chair: Lynda Addison , Chair, Transport Planning Society
Speakers: Cathy Miller, Deputy Director for Cities, Places and Devolution, Department for Transport
Jonathan Spruce, Interim Strategy Director, Transport for the North
