The Partners Forum is open to all employees of CIHT Partner Organisations. The Forum is designed for a small group of representatives from Partner Organisations to come together to share views and opinion whilst discussing common industry issues and challenges.
The DfT recently launched a consultation on ‘transport labour market and skills’, asking for views on what skills are needed within our sector for the future and do the current training provision and qualifications answer those needs. It is anticipated that data and digital skills will feature strongly in the results of the consultation.
Last year many of us followed the #greatresignation discussion on LinkedIn which highlighted surveys that demonstrated 41% of workers were thinking of leaving their jobs. The reasons given were partly due to the change in ways of working, with greater reliance on technology offering opportunities for a re-think on how and where we work.
Technology, data and digital are fast becoming part of everyone’s job and the speed at which technology advances means it is crucial to have the necessary skills and understanding of data and digital tools or methods.
The new technological workforce entering the sector brings fresh-thinking. One of the four pillars of the National Data Strategy is data skills. But are we, as a sector, keeping pace and making progress? What are we doing to support and upskill the existing workforce?
In December 2021 the Partners’ Forum discussion on digital twins raised many good points including how the industry now enjoys a much more collaborative culture that should be nurtured; how early engagement, asking the right questions and collaboration will be key to the development of the value technology can bring to the industry.
Is there sufficient collaboration across the transportation sector? Is the value of data understood and how essential is the consistency of standards?
The Partnerships Forum is open to employees of our Partnerships Network Organisations.
