Introducing the CIHT Partner-Supported Technical Paper Reducing Emissions by 63% in a Decade.
Representatives from our Partner organisations and CIHT Technical Champions have formed three task and finish groups for 2023. Each group will develop and deliver a technical paper that will positively influence the sector and support the changes the sector needs to take to progress and develop.
The group presenting at this event is focused on:
Delegates will be given an overview of the project and hear about the work completed to date. Case studies on existing, successful work will be presented and there will be a workshop session in which delegates will be invited to contribute to the project, providing feedback and suggestions.
To stay on course to deliver a Net Zero economy in 2050 the UK needs to reduce emissions from surface transport by 63% against 2019 levels by 2035.
In response the Scottish and Welsh governments are both targeting reductions in vehicle mileage, and the latter has instigated a roads review that seems set to severely limit the scope for the construction of new road capacity. In England, the High Court has ruled the government’s existing Net Zero strategy unlawful for its failure to explain or quantify how it will deliver the necessary emissions reduction.
This all indicates that incremental change driven by pockets of good practice is not a sustainable approach.
The paper will aim to identify current practices, technologies or other interventions that:
Delegates will be given an overview of this project and the proposed structure and content of the technical paper, and an update on the work completed to date.
Presentations will be delivered to showcase some of the existing work in the sector which is already having a positive effect on reducing emissions.
The final section to this event will be a workshop where delegates will be invited to contribute by providing feedback on the work being done for this technical paper.
They will be encouraged to:
Delegates will also be given details regarding the call for evidence around emission reductions and examples of work that would support this technical paper.
