Road Condition - Are Our Roads Really That Bad?

The deteriorating condition of our roads nationally is a major concern. The Association of Asphalt Industries produces annually results of road condition via its ALARM surveys. The first part of the meeting will look at the results of these surveys, what is the underlying trend, and what is needed to improve the current situation. The second part of the meeting will provide information on how road condition is managed within a PFI with particular reference to the Streets Ahead Project in Sheffield. What are the issues? How is road condition monitored? How is performance monitored.

Speakers

Alan Carnall – Alan is currently the Branch Secretary of CIHT Y&H Branch. He retired from Barnsley Council in 2008 where he was Assistant Director Highways & Engineering and responsible for, amongst other things, managing and maintaining 720 miles of roads.

Nick Hetherington – Nick is Network Manager for Amey within the Sheffield Highways PFI. He was formally part of Street Force at Sheffield City Council.
