Led by CIHT South West. The South West Showcase Series is a region-wide look at projects in the South West led by key industry leaders across the region.
Featuring presentations from Hampshire County Council, Arup and UWE.
This webinar series, organised by the CIHT South West committee, is designed to provide insights into recent transport projects and the challenges that they address from across the diverse region. Across the two webinars there will be presentations on several projects across the South West covering different topic areas.
The Winchester Movement Strategy was adopted by Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council in early 2019 following extensive engagement and public consultation. It set out three priorities; to reduce city centre traffic, support healthier lifestyle choices and invest in infrastructure to support sustainable growth. Over the last two years Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council have been jointly developing an action plan and list of prioritised transport improvements to deliver the strategy.
This presentation will set out key lessons learnt through developing the strategy, working with stakeholders and identifying transport improvements within the constrained environment of a compact historical city.
Cities and towns are at the heart of our response to climate change. Action taken at a city scale to decarbonise and improve climate resilience also has potential to create healthier, more equitable places live, work and spend time – but we must harness innovations in approach and technology to overcome the challenges posed by the past, present and future of our cities’ communities, buildings and systems.
During this short presentation, Edgar Kivet will share how the 15-minute town approach could address climate change and be an answer to Yate’s typical New Town issues such as car dependency and limited public transport usage. He will share the six key principles we propose to drive urban change towards a town in which daily necessities, such as work, schools, shops, healthcare and parks, are within a 15-minute reach on foot or bike from home.
Why are young people at-risk of transport related social inclusion and what evidence tells us about the role of transport in the long-term life outcomes of young people? Sarah Collings will provide the context based on evidence and will the provide an overview of ongoing Transport to Thrive activity, research being undertaken by the Centre for Transport Studies at UWE.
The event is aimed at all transportation professionals.
Whilst the discussion and project case studies will all be drawn from the South West region, the issues and topics to be discussed will be of national importance and learning from projects will be applicable across the country.
All transportation professionals, ranging from engineers to planners, from modellers to operators, from contractors to decision-makers will benefit from attending. The event will be accessible to all.
