Speaker: Professor David Jeffery
David will present NICHES+, a collaborative European research project
supported by DG Research under the FP6 programme. He will concentrate on the
work of Working Group 4 on 'Automated space efficient transport systems'
which was led by TRG and which investigated the potential of Personal and
Group Rapid Transit systems and car sharing schemes using electric vehicles
as means of providing sustainable urban transport for the future. He will
present the state of the art of these concepts around the world, and the
results of work with selected experts to identify the needs and expectations
of users and stakeholders; consider issues of transferability; develop
guidelines for implementers; and Identify necessary policy and research
recommendations.
David Jeffery is an Electrical Engineer with more than forty years'
experience in a wide range of transport-related matters, and a specialist in
intelligent transport systems and services. His experience includes nearly
30 years with the UK Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), and some 10 years
in industry, finally as Managing Director of Atkins Transport Systems. He is
now an independent consultant and visiting Professor at the University of
Southampton's Transportation Research Group. He has extensive experience in
EC RTD projects for DG's INFSO, TREN and RESEARCH. David is a Chartered
Electrical Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Highways and
Transportation.
