Aimed at transportation professionals; from highway engineers and transport planners to urban designers, this event will give you the opportunity to hear from those working with the design and delivery of inclusive streets, and those who work to ensure that we understand the needs of different user groups.
Street design is poised for disruptive change over the next decades. Some changes are already happening, but more will come and they will all grow in significance. Changes include our ageing population, urbanisation, technological changes influencing how and why we travel and the urgent need for climate change mitigation and adaption.
The transport sector must be ready to respond to these changes, to ensure that streets are inclusive and more people orientated in that they improve quality of life through good design.
CIHT has been working with the Department for Transport and the Cabinet Office's Policy Lab to develop an approach for a refresh of Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2. A refresh of Manual for Streets will need to take account of the changes that are happening, and at this event some of the current thinking on these issues will be presented.
Transport planners, urban designers, highway engineers and anyone who has an interest in street design.
From junior level professionals who are tasked with designing the actual places, to seniors who set the strategic direction.
From Local Authority professionals to those working with urban design and transport planning in the private or non-profit sector.
Our urban environments will have to cater better for people from all walks of life to make sure that they can live independent and healthy lives. This will become increasingly important in what everyone in the highways and transportation sector do. A new Manual for Streets would be a key piece of guidance for anyone working in highways and transportation.
At this event you will hear about the latest thinking from central government and those who are at the forefront of this agenda.
