CIHT Hong Kong are excited to offer this technical visit to Kwu Tung Station in collaboration with the HKU Engineering Society.
Deadline for the registration is 21 March 2025.
Kwu Tung Station will be situated at the heart of the future Kwu Tung North New Development Area. Construction of Kwu Tung Station is a highly complex endeavor. The project team has been operating round the clock, meticulously scheduling construction tasks during and outside service hours of the East Rail Line to maintain day-to-day railway operation.
The station’s tunnel is a deep box structure requiring adequate soil weight above it to counteract groundwater buoyancy for stability. Employing the “cut and cover” construction method, a robust excavation and lateral support system is in place with real-time monitoring of the groundwater levels and pressure acting on the box. To address these challenges, innovative technologies are being leveraged to improve project quality and efficiency, aiming for the target service commencement of the new station while ensuring full safety of the existing railway line.
Mr. Ralph TAM, the Chief Field Engineering Manager of MTR Corporation (railway company in Hong Kong), possess 28 years of project management and engineering experience who is specialised in civil, tunnel and geotechnical engineering. Currently, He is currently managing various railway development project. Mr. TAM has been Project Manager and Engineering Team Leader on large-scale projects responsible for project management, coordination and liaison work with clients, government departments, consultants, contractors and different stakeholders.
