CIHT Hong Kong is delighted to offer this unique CPD opportunity of visiting the Southern Bridge at Tseung Kwan O.
The Technical Visit to Southern Bridge, Tseung Kwan O will provide an in-depth presentation on the project's background and features, challenges encountered during the construction phases, and the public benefits brought by the proposed footbridge.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to raise queries about the erection method for steel bridge, large-scaled off-site fabrication, and other related topics during the seminar.
This project aims at providing various infrastructure at the restored TKO Stage 1 landfill site to support the recreational development including improvement of linkage between the landfill site and the adjacent areas. This project features a footbridge named “Southern Bridge” spanning across the Eastern Channel which will enhance the pedestrian connectivity amongst the residential development at TKO Town Centre South and LOHAS Park. This project is being implemented in Hong Kong by Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) under Contract No. ED/2019/01.
The project involves the construction of a footbridge with length of about 150 metres (m) and a width of about 6 m, over Eastern Channel connecting TKO Waterfront Park and TKO South Waterfront Promenade. Upon completion of the footbridge, it will certainly improve the connectivity of pedestrians between both sides of Eastern Channel. The footbridge is a steel arch bridge echoing the newly completed Cross Bay Link (CBL) situated over Junk Bay of Hong Kong.
It is highlighted that S690QL high strength steelworks are adopted for construction in this project. This design not only reduces the consumption of the structural steelworks and construction time, but also makes the project more environmentally friendly and sustainable. In addition to the footbridge construction works, a sewage pumping station, a pair of sewage rising mains of about 560 m long and associated sewage pipes at LOHAS Park Road and some ancillary works including landscape works, seawall modification, etc. are constructed under this project. Southern Bridge together with CBL will form a new icon of infrastructures in TKO.
This technical seminar is tailored to cater to civil engineers of all levels, including those at various grades.
