Date: 26 June 2019
Time: 8:00am - 9:00am
Venue: Addenbrooke House, Ironmasters Way, Telford, TF3 4NT
On this breakfast event, the development and construction of the new Telford Central Footbridge will be discussed. The Telford Central Footbridge scheme was a £10m project funded by the Department for Transport seeking to enhance accessibility to Telford Central Station and Telford Town Centre.
The new footbridge offers an enhanced journey from the train station to the town centre. As well as providing an architecturally pleasing structure, the project has also provided improved accessibility, lighting and landscaping to improve the public realm area around the station. Ultimately, the scheme provides step free access to Telford Central which handles over one million passengers a year.
The bridge is now acting as a catalyst for further regeneration and development around the bridge and station area. Local businesses such as the Telford Shopping Centre and the International Centre (5th largest conference centre in the UK) are ecstatic with the access and welcome this now provides to visitors coming to Telford.
The project comprises two linked structures stretching an impressive 90m and 40m. Eye-catching materials were used including stretched fabric roofing, glass reinforced plastic edge features and glazed balustrades. New state of the art mechanical lifts has also been commissioned to improve the accessibility of the station.
The event is open to members and non-members. Refreshments will be provided.
