A CIHT London Region Event
(Members from all Regions of CIHT are welcome to attend London Region Events.)
Date: Wednesday 11 May 2016
Time: 18.00 for 18.30 start
Venue: TfL Offices “Palestra” Blackfriars Road (Ground Floor)
Nearest Tube: Southwark
Subject The Blackwall Tunnel and the Proposed Silvertown Tunnel
There were only 26 days in 2014 when there were no closures of the Blackwall tunnel as a result of different incidents. Additionally there are nearly 50 bus routes crossing the river to the west of Vauxhall bridge but only one bus route to the east.
On top of that, it is expected that a quarter of London's planned growth (rising to a population of 10 million by 2030) will take place in the four boroughs adjoining the tunnel.
These are some of the statistics behind the initiative to do something about the Blackwall tunnel and its inherent problems.
The presentation will outline all the different options that have been considered, their likely costs and benefits(particularly in terms of public transport) and it's likely programme.
Speakers: David Rowe & Tom King
David Rowe is Head of the Silvertown Tunnel Sponsorship Team. He is responsible for determining the project requirements and outputs and is accountable for the governance, assurance, stakeholder engagement, business case and benefits realisation for the scheme. He has been with Transport for London (TfL) for 14 years, having undertaken various sponsorship and programme management roles within the organisation. Prior to joining TfL he led the transport team at L.B.Hammersmith & Fulham, having also worked for the L.B.Wandsworth.
Tom King leads the Silvertown Transport Planning team, which has developed key aspects of the scheme including user charging, monitoring and mitigation, complementary measures and has established the overall case for the scheme, as well as producing the detailed assessment of transport impacts for the DCO. Tom joined TfL to take up a policy role on the central London Congestion Charging scheme and subsequently moved into the Planning Projects team where he worked on wider east London river crossings before joining the Silvertown project.
