Abby Taylor of Transport for London and Graham Bright of Serco, the scheme’s Service Provider, will talk about some of the scheme’s successes, challenges, lessons learnt from a full year of operation and how those lessons learnt are informing Phase 2.
Cycling in the future presentation
Atholl will summarise existing knowledge of the potential cycling market and attitudes to cycling in London and the UK, and contrast this to some international experience.
Jessica Ellery joined TfL in 2006 to deliver a £multi-million programme of cycling infrastructure schemes on the Transport for London Road network and London Cycle Network+. In 2008 Jess was seconded to manage the 2012 Walking and Cycling Route Enhancements Programme, taking the routes from feasibility through to start of construction, in partnership with the Olympic Boroughs. In 2009 she joined the Barclays Cycle Superhighways (BCS) team, and delivered the first two routes of this flagship scheme in July 2010 on time and under budget. Part of the Mayor’s Cycling Revolution, the BCSs are a joined up package of infrastructure and behaviour change initiatives, and Jess managed the Pilot Route project from market research and concept definition through to business case development, feasibility, design, consultation, implementation and launch. The Pilot Routes have now been in operation for over a year, and two more routes were opened in July 2011.
Abby Taylor joined TfL in 2007 to work across a range of highways projects on the Transport for London Road Network. In July 2008, Abby joined the project team commissioned to deliver the Mayor’s flagship scheme, Barclays Cycle Hire (BCH). During Phase 1, she worked closely with the partner central London boroughs and the Service Provider, Serco, to manage the site identification, consents and site design programme. In September 2010, Abby was appointed as Project Manager for the expansion of BCH, where she is responsible for the delivering the scheme extension into east London in time for the 2012 Olympics.
Graham Bright is the Service and Performance Director for the Barclays Cycle Hire (BCH) in London. Graham is responsible for live service performance, service improvement and service reporting; all of which will enable Serco to deliver on their promises to TfL and scheme users. Graham originally joined BCH in 2010 as an advisor to the Senior Management Team but recently agreed in May 2011 to join the BCH in this permanent role. Graham was previously employed with General Electric and British Airways improving their maintenance and logistic operations which provides him with the relevant experience for improving our on street operations. After leaving the aerospace industry Graham advised organisations on performance improvement initially with KPMG and more recently with Serco. During this period of consulting Graham has worked with many organisations with a particular focus on improving the customer experience; this provides him with the relevant knowledge for improving our contact centre. First and foremost Graham is passionate about making Cycle Hire in London a success.
Atholl Noon is a Technical Director at SKM Colin Buchanan, and has more than 20 years of experience in transport planning. He has worked on a wide variety of projects with a cycling focus, including multi-modal studies of Oxford, Cambridge and Durham, Sustrans route design, cycling facilities on Red Routes and behaviour change studies. He is a keen commuter cyclist and has a particular interest in the potential for cycling and attitudes towards cycling.
