This presentation assesses the need to consider the behaviour of road users and performance of a wide range of junctions when they are unregulated, as might be the case under a 'shared space' or 'naked street' arrangement.  Without any method of establishing suitability of a site for simplified treatment in perrformance terms, it is not possible to determine when and where controls might be relaxed, and to what extent. There may also be economic beenfits to part-time signal control.  Results of a signal switch-off trial at Cabstand in Portishead show some encouraging and perhaps surprising results.
Members from other branches and non members are welcome to attend our presentations however, it is always advisable to book.
