20th July 2010, Bircham Dyson Bell, London
With a new Government in place, what are the implications for the future of planning, housing and infrastructure delivery?
The Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats are in agreement on the need to abolish regional planning, on abolishing the IPC and ensuring that decisions for major infrastructure are made democratically. They are also aligned in their goals of localism, community empowerment and devolving power as far as possible.
However what will these policies mean for planning in practice and for the future of strategic planning, housing and infrastructure delivery?
With a new Planning Bill expected to be announced in the Queen’s speech next week, this conference looks at the implications of the proposed changes.
The conference will cover the following:
• The challenges facing the current system
• The impact of abolishing regional planning and potential levels power could be devolved to
• Developing multi-authority working arrangements
• Consulting on and designating National Policy Statements – where are we now?
• Developing the National Policy Statements into a National planning framework
• Beyond the IPC - the future for assessing applications for major infrastructure projects and future models including Hybrid Bills for linear projects
• How can local plans be made truly local? – the potential for achieving greater neighbourhood involvement in planning
• Removing targets and incentivising the delivery of housing and affordable housing
• Finding the right level for strategic planning and infrastructure delivery
