17:30 for 18:00 start
Hear from the HYPED team at Edinburgh University and Drummond Community High School pupils about their work to contribute to the development of this fast-paced technology. Plus, the opportunity to see a functioning prototype pod.
Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available from 17.30
Hyperloop is Elon Musk’s concept for the future of mass transportation. The concept would see electrically propelled pods travel autonomously through a near-vacuum tube. The pods will be able to reach speeds comparable to aircraft, and could see a journey such as Edinburgh to London shortened to 50 minutes.
Hyperloop is garnering global interest and investment, with companies such as Virgin Hyperloop One, HTT, and Arrivo founded to build the technology. Governments around the world are supporting the technology, with progress developing in the UAE, the Netherlands, Finland, India, Russia and the United States as well as Scotland where there are plans to construct the UK’s first Hyperloop Test Track.
At this event you will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from both the HYPED team at Edinburgh University and Drummond Community High School pupils about their work to contribute to the development of this fast-paced technology. There will also be the opportunity to see a functioning prototype pod built by the HYPED team at the international SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition.
This talk will be of interest to engineers, transport planners, software developers and innovators who want to hear more about Hyperloop and the work of Scottish students in the development of this technology.
Tea/coffee/biscuits will be available from 17.30
Edinburgh University HYPED Team
HYPED is a student society at the University of Edinburgh dedicated to accelerating the development of Hyperloop and implementing the technology in the UK. HYPED is advancing both technical and commercial aspects of Hyperloop, having seen success in three international competitions.
Our team was founded in 2015 and has grown to over 200+ members as of 2018. The team is diverse, comprised of an international group of students across academic disciplines.
Drummond High School Hyperloop Team
In April 2019 senior pupils from Drummond High School in Edinburgh took part in an event hosted by Bentley Systems and education consultant Class of Your Own to present future visions of hyperloop systems and stations. As one of four schools taking part, the pupils outlined their designs for a hyperloop system between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to a judging panel and went on to win the competition. As part of their prize, the pupils attended Bentley Systems’ Year in Infrastructure Conference in Singapore in October.
