The Silvertown Tunnel Scheme Presentation
Date: Wednesday 4 October 2017
Time: 18:00 to 20:00
Venue: University of Greenwich, Medway Campus, Central Avenue, Chatham Maritime, Kent, ME4 4TB
Speaker: David Rowe, Head of Infrastructure Sponsorship, TfL
The Silvertown Tunnel has been designed to address the significant issues of traffic congestion and reliability that plague the Blackwall Tunnel and the consequential effects on travel, the economy, the environment and supporting planned growth.
The scheme was designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project by the Secretary of State for Transport in 2012 and the scheme recently went through a public examination as part of a Development Consent Order (DCO) application for the project.
The scheme involves the construction of a new twin-bore tunnel under the Thames, together with the introduction of user charging on the existing Blackwall Tunnel and the new Silvertown Tunnel.
This session will be delivered by David Rowe, TfL's Head of Infrastructure Sponsorship, who was the lead witness for the scheme during the DCO examination. The session will focus on the case for the scheme, the forecast impacts, the programme for delivery and the challenges of delivering such a major infrastructure project within a very built up urban area.
