Speaker: Neil Firth, Head of Service: Major Projects and Investment, Doncaster Council
Neil’s role covers major infrastructure projects, strategic transport, housing and business investment. He has worked in local government transport and highways since starting his career with Lincolnshire County Council 30 years ago. Neil has been at the planning and delivery end of major infrastructure projects throughout his career.
Doncaster Council’s development aspirations for the south Doncaster area are massive. The completion of the Great Yorkshire Way (M18 to A638) earlier this year (winner of the CIHT Regional Best Project Award 2016) has greatly improved access to the airport, and the second phase to the airport itself is already being planned. The new road and its unique location adjacent to the M18 and East Coast Main Railway Line is a catalyst for major new development including iPort and the regeneration of the old Rossington Colliery site, as well as supporting growth at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
We’ll hear more about the Great Yorkshire Way project itself next year, but at this event, Neil Firth will describe Doncaster Council’s aspirations for the area within the context of Sheffield City Region’s Growth Plan.
