A Greater London Branch Event

Venue: Jacobs offices 20 St. Thomas Street, London SE1 9RS

(Nearest Tube Stn, London Bridge)

Time 6.00 for 6.30 start

Subject: Transport Interchange in London and Place making

Presenters: Martina Juvara & Haibat Abro

Cities and way of life are transformed by the way transportation is designed, so that transport is no longer just about a ‘system’: it is investment, meeting point, and symbol of a community and a place. The experience of Crossrail, HS2 and London Overground clearly indicate we are at the verge of a radical shift in the planning, procurement and provision of transport in our city

Martina Juvara is Director of Major Planning, Urbansilence Ltd

Van Goch Walk in Lambeth is winner of the CIHT/EM Highway Services Streets Award 2014. Residents' group, Streets Ahead and Lambeth Council worked together to transform Isabel Street, a dimly lit back road into Van Goch Walk, a cleaner, safer street, where children now play and pedestrians meet.

Elaine Kramer, Chair of Streets Award said "If you knew the street as it was and see it now, you'll understand how much it has changed and the postive effect it has on the people living there"

Haibat Abro is a Civil Engineer, working in Transport Design team for Lambeth Council. He designed Van Gogh Walk and he will cover a brief history of design phases for Van Gogh Walk, the technical difficulties during the construction and how these were dealt with.
