Transport Planning: Data driven decision making
Data in Transport
As the role of transport planners in society evolves, we are increasingly turning to the use of large and diverse sources of data to help inform our decision making in relation to policy and investments.
This Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and Transport Planning Society event looks at available population and travel behaviour information in Ireland and its analysis at a regional and project specific scale. Presentations will include:

Cormac Halpin, Senior Statistician at the Central Statistics Office, will present on some of the key findings from the recent Census 2016 commuting publication and the process for accessing the micro data.

Dr Brian Caulfield, Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin,will speak on his experiences with using public sector data and present several case studies that demonstrate the benefits of collaborating with public sector bodies.

Dr Edgar Morgenroth, Associate Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, will present on his research into spatial development patterns and the National Planning Framework. This will include a review of recent trends and the implications of poor planning.
