Data in TransportData in Transport

As the role of transport planners in society evolves, we are increasingly turning to  the  use  of  large  and  diverse  sources  of  data  to  help  inform  our  decision making in relation to policy and investments.

This  Chartered  Institution  of  Highways  and  Transportation  and  Transport Planning  Society  event  looks  at  available  population  and  travel  behaviour information in Ireland and its analysis at a regional and project specific scale. Presentations will include:

  • Cormac Halpin, Senior Statistician at the Central Statistics Office, will present on some of the key findings from the recent Census 2016 commuting publication and the process for accessing the micro data.
  • Dr Brian Caulfield, Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin, will speak on his experiences with using public sector data and present several case studies that demonstrate the benefits of collaborating with public sector bodies.
  • Dr Edgar Morgenroth, Associate Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, will present on his research into spatial development patterns and the National Planning Framework. This will include a review of recent trends and the implications of poor planning.
