Microsoft Teams: CIHT North East & Cumbria have teamed up with ICE to offer a virtual site tour of the Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor. The Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3 (SSTC3) is the critical 2km link between the Northern Spire and Sunderland City Centre. The joint site team at SSTC3 will be giving a ‘Lunch and Learn’ style presentation to highlight the significant progress made on the scheme.

Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3 (SSTC3) is the critical 2km link between the Northern Spire and Sunderland City Centre.
Sunderland City Council & Capita are providing the Project Management & Site Supervision, and Esh Civils are the Main Contractor for the works.
The project has been on site since May 2019 and the joint site team at SSTC3 will be giving a ‘Lunch and Learn’ style presentation to highlight the significant progress made on the scheme.
The location of the scheme provides some unique challenges and the presentation will highlight how these challenges have been overcome through the use of structural and civil engineering.
The presentation will focus on the different elements of construction utilised for the structural retaining walls, the strategic utility diversion work and the sections of road that have been constructed to date.

John Cartin, Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure
John is a Civil Engineer and an Accredited NEC3 Site Supervisor providing Highways Site Supervision on SSTC3. John graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2013 and has a variety of experience in the planning, design and construction of highways, residential and commercial developments in the North East.
Rachael Oliver, Sunderland City Council
Rachael is a Civil Engineering Technician and an Accredited NEC3 Site Supervisor providing Highways Site Supervision on SSTC3. Rachael started at the Council back in 2011 has over 10 years’ experience working on a variety of highways and transport improvement projects in Sunderland. Rachael was awarded the CIHT AWARD for Young Professional back in 2017.
Karl Gibson, Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure
Karl is a Structural Engineer and an Accredited NEC3 Site Supervisor providing Structural Site Supervision and Principal Designer duties on SSTC3. Karl graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2015 and has a variety of experience in the assessment, design and maintenance of highway, commercial and other structural assets in the North East and Cumbria.
Adam Beattie, Esh Civils
Adam is the Site Agent for Highways on SSTC3. Adam Graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2006 and has since had a variety of delivery experience working for the Principal Contractor on major Highway Projects all over the UK as well as a spell undertaking the role of Contractor’s Design Manager. Adam was elected as a Member of CIHT in 2016.
