What to do with Tar-bound Planings?

What to do with Tar-bound Planings?

Roads constructed before the 1980s may contain coal tar and the planings produced in subsequent maintenance works have the potential to be classified as hazardous waste. Options for the disposal of this waste can be costly but there are more sustainable solutions than sending it to licensed landfill or for incineration. Cold processing to generate materials for reuse in construction is almost the ideal solution with tar returning to the network or even the same site that it came from in the form of a durable base / binder course mixture.

The talk will explore all options for tar arising disposal including ongoing developments to safely add non hazardous tar arisings back into conventional hotmix asphalt.
