A Greater London Branch Event

Speakers: Jim Mc Geever, European Projects Manager, LEPT

Dr. Ian Johnson, Secretariat, IMPACTS Europe

6.00 for 6.30 PM

Boroughs and partner businesses have yet to fully take advantage of EU programmes which offer another source of funding on transport schemes/ initiatives. The talk discusses these options and provides insights on how Boroughs and the private sector could work together to tap into such programmes.

If Europe is to fulfill its economic and social potential, it is essential to build the missing links and remove the bottlenecks in our transport infrastructure, as well as to ensure the future sustainability of our transport networks by taking into account the energy efficiency needs and the climate change challenges. The EU is funding various transport initiatives and studies through framework programmes. There is a high level of interest, as expected from member states. Considering these times of austerity, the availability of external funding through the EU may provide authorities in London with an avenue to achieve more for transport. The talk will inform attendees on  existing European funded transport programmes, current and forthcoming opportunities and the assessment criteria and needs to be met by organisations who are interested to be involved in the programme. Examples of successful bids from London will  be presented to demonstrate that there have been successful funding cases in the past.
