Y&H Two Road Safety Problems - Speed and Distraction

As well as being Professor of Transport Safety at Leeds Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) since 2003, Professor Carsten is also Chair of the Road User Behaviour Working Party of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. PACTS provides advice to Parliament and the Government on safety policy. In addition he is an expert advisor to the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) which plays a similar role to PACTS at the European level.

Professor Carsten’s key area of research are new technology and safety; driver assistance systems; speed management; driver distraction; the design and use of driving simulators for safety research; road traffic accident causation and as such the evening’s presentation will be focused on the aspects of speed and distraction.
