Don't just take our word for it

We spoke to Nicola Wass, Chief Executive, So-Mo about the impact entering the CIHT Awards has had on her organisation;

"In 2022, So-Mo and Birmingham City Council (BCC) were awarded ‘highly commended,’ in CIHT’s Research Initiative of the Year category.  Our submission featured a programme of Behavioural Science research, which derived insights into road safety challenges facing South Asian Communities.

For two years prior to the award, the So-Mo team, our partners from BCC and 20 young people from Birmingham’s South Asian community had worked incredibly hard, eventually achieving results that challenge current thinking and provide new insight into how to change population level behaviour.

Looking back, achieving shortlisted status gave weight to conference submissions. In 2022 we spoke at 8 prestigious conferences across in the UK and Europe. Since the award, So-Mo has been profiled in January’s edition of CIHT’s Transportation Professional magazine and we look forward to speaking at CIHT’s Emerging Professionals Conference later in the year.

Perhaps more important is the effect this has had on the team behind the research.  Achieving industry recognition has brought joy to the people involved and shone a spotlight on the important work of The Road Safety Trust, who invested in this research and continue to support pioneering research that saves lives.

When you’re a small company, with limited resource, you invest your time wisely. We feel that entering the CIHT awards has been of real benefit, and we look forward to continuing and deepening our relationship with the wider CIHT team in 2023."
