The CIHT ‘Transport Decarbonisation Pathway’ provides a high-level summary of important transport decarbonisation topics and is intended to help identify personal CPD objectives and turn them into an action plan.
The areas of this guidance you choose to focus on should reflect your job role, the stage of your career, whether you are working towards a professional qualification and any other relevant aspect of your personal circumstances – you should not feel you have to cover every topic.
This is a CIHT member benefit and our latest continuing professional development guidance includes an expectation that from 2023 all our members should focus some of their annual CPD effort on developing the skills and knowledge they need to play their role in the decarbonisation of highways and transportation.
CPD is a way to ensure your skills and knowledge remain up to date throughout your career and that you can address the challenges facing the sector.
As a CIHT member you can also access a range of support from the CIHT Learn platform including a free introductory course on Transport Decarbonisation.

CIHT members can use the pathway to identify CPD objectives and learning resources that are suitable for their current level of knowledge and job role.
You should first check that you are confident that you are up to date with the topics covered in Section A: Climate Change Fundamentals for Transportation Professionals. If not, you can take a 1 hour on-line course on CIHT Learn that covers this material.
If you need more advanced material, Section B: Transport Decarbonisation Key Skills and Knowledge provides guidance on topics that are applicable to different job roles – alongside links to relevant materials to help you grow your knowledge and understanding.
