Colas Papers Competition : Your Branch Needs You

The Branch is pleased to announce details for the regional round of the Colas Papers Competition, which will be held on Thursday 23 June 2011. Scott Wilson URS has offered its offices in Manchester for the competition, although an alternative may be considered to suit the entrants’ travel arrangements.

The deadline for entries is Friday 10 June 2011. Papers presented can be based on project work or research conducted as part of other studies (eg Degree, MSc, etc).

The application process is straight forward : register your application and submit a 100 word summary of your paper. The winner of the Branch competition will also be invited to represent the Branch at the CIHT National Final Colas Papers competition, subject to the candidate being a member of CIHT and 35 years of age or under.

Entrants will need to make a 15 minute presentation and then this will be followed by 10 minutes of discussion / questioning. Entrants should see the competition as a way of developing and enhancing communication skills in front of a supportive audience. The competition should provide development opportunities to those who are preparing to undertake professional qualification and also for students seeking to improve communication skills.  Please do not be deterred from entering as all judges want the entrants to do well in the competition and would be happy to provide feedback.
