Today (26/03/2019) the Asphalt Industry Alliance published their 2019 analysis of road conditions (ALARM) in England and Wales. Based on a survey of local authorities it provides key details of highways maintenance budgets, resurfacing, potholes and compensation

Matching many of concerns uncovered by the CIHT Review of Local Highways the results show that has been a large drop in carriageway maintenance budgets and lower frequency of road surfacing but there has been improvement in the number of potholes filled and overall highway budgets.

In CIHT's recent evidence to the Transport Select Committee our President Matthew Lugg called for reform to both the funding and governance of local highways as councils divert resources to other matters.
