The funding forms the third allocation from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund. 12 major projects have won funding totalling £225 million, while 15 smaller schemes are receiving a total of £41 million from the Department for Transport. This includes an additional £40 million on top of the previously- announced £560m funding available under the scheme. To read the press release from DfT please click here.
Sue Percy, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation said, “CIHT welcome today’s announcement on the allocation of the third tranche of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).
Through this award, the government is highlighting its commitment to local economic growth. The rewarding of £266m to sustainable travel schemes in this round of funding will contribute towards reducing the carbon impact of the highways and transport sector across England.
The Institution recognises the great potential of the LSTF and will continue to support and work closely with industry and local government to develop green transport and infrastructure schemes.
CIHT is committed to developing the sustainable transport sector. July 5th will see CIHT hosting a seminar on Sustainable Transport and this autumn CIHT will be releasing a good practice publication with a focus on sustainable transport.”
